Welcome to digital literacy! This kit is designed for students in grades 6-9. It introduces students to important concepts and content under the umbrella of digital literacy. Students will first learn about the news media and how to navigate the news, they will practise identifying sources of news information, learn about bias in reporting, and learn about differentiating between fact and fiction. Next, all students will learn more about social media, both the risks and rewards of this form of communication, and how to protect themselves in an online environment. Finally, all students will learn about conducting research in a digital environment. This kit addresses the Media Literacy Big Idea in Grade six, and some Social Studies, Career, and ADST standards in grades 6-9.
